Call it simple politeness or social compliance – it’s the core theme of Speak No Evil, a new psychological horror starring James McAvoy, who, according to our movie guy Ben O’Shea, is clearly ‘leaning into his villain era.’
It centres around an American couple and their daughter who are invited for a weekend retreat at a rural estate in England. Their hosts, a British family they befriended on a recent holiday in Spain, seem welcoming at first, but as the weekend progresses, the Americans begin to sense that their hosts may not be what they appear.
Despite their growing unease, they decide to keep things polite rather than speak up about their suspicions, leading them down a terrifying path.
