There’s already been a massive shock surrounding this year’s Oscars, with golden girl Margot Robbie overlooked for a nomination.
Robbie was widely tipped to earn a nod for her leading role in the highly popular Barbie movie, but was snubbed from the Best Actress list unveiled by the Academy this morning.
Here’s what Clairsy & Lisa had to say about it this morning…
Director Greta Gerwig also missed out, despite the film becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2023. Not all is lost, Barbie is still up for eight nominations including Best Picture, while Ryan Gosling has earned a nod for Best Supporting Actor, and America Ferrera is up for Best Supporting Actress.
The film’s hits What Was I Made For and I’m Just Ken are also up for best song.
Following the news, the internet erupted into a frenzy.
“So Ryan Gosling’s nominated for playing ken but Margot Robbie isn’t nominated for playing Barbie… in Barbie,” one person wrote.
“Wait Ryan Gosling got nominated for his role as Ken, but Margot Robbie didn’t get nominated for Barbie?! And Greta got snubbed for Best Director?!?! Way to justify the literal plot of the movie,” another commented.

You have to be a leading lady but you can’t be nominated for best actress. You have to be a strong female director but you can’t be nominated for best director. You have to have a wildly popular dance song but you can’t be nominated for best original song. pic.twitter.com/yhlpS4AdTv

Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer appears to be the one to beat, leading the charge with 13 nominations, including leading actor and supporting actress.
Poor Things also nabbed 11 nominations, including for Australian screenwriter Tony McNamara.
