Dragon are ‘draggin’ Prime Minister Scott Morrison for his impromptu performance of one of their biggest songs during an interview with 60 Minutes.

The interview with the PM and wife Jenny on Sunday night covered a string of topics, including the family’s infamous holiday to Hawaii during the Black Summer bushfires of early 2020.

In a scene where the family sat around the dinner table, Morrison pulled out a ukulele and had a singalong to April Sun in Cuba, the massive first single from Dragon’s 1977 album Running Free.

Dragon did not like this.

Shortly after the broadcast, the band reposted a TikTok (from @_itsnotarace) to their Instagram and Facebook pages of Morrison strumming along and singing the hit song, superimposed onto a background of raging fire.

Dragon captioned the post: ‘Once again, Dragon are famous for all the wrong reasons.’

In an official statement, the band went further.

‘This time it’s The Hon. Scott Morrison, MP Prime Minister of Australia’s interpretation of April Sun in Cuba,’ it read.

‘Written by two New Zealanders living in Australia (Paul Hewson, Marc Hunter, both since passed), about a long-ago diplomatic fracas on the other side of the world.

‘It’s a cynical move for a politician to co-opt music in an attempt to humanize themselves come election time.

‘Maybe if his trip to Hawaii had not been cut short, he could have learnt the lyrics to the rest of the chorus:

Take me where the April sun

Gonna treat me so right, so right
