Kate Bush has confirmed that she’s in the early stages of planning her next album, her first since 50 Words For Snow in 2011. In a rare interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today show, the reclusive singer expressed her eagerness to dive back into music.
Bush, who recently debuted Little Shrew (Snowflake) – a short film for War Child UK – said new music is high on her list now that other creative tasks are behind her.
“I’ve been caught up doing a lot of archive work over the last few years, redesigning our website, putting a lyric book together,” she explained.
“And I’m very keen to start working on a new album when I’ve got this finished. I’ve got lots of ideas and I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space, it’s been a long time.”
While she’s keen to record, performing live is another matter. Responding to recent comments by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, who hinted he’d like to see her return to the stage, Bush said simply, “I’m not there yet.”
Her last performance was in 2014’s Before the Dawn, a 22-night residency at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, ending a 35-year hiatus.
Bush’s music found renewed fame in 2022 when her 1985 classic “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” soared to the top of the UK charts and reached #2 in Canada after being featured in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Reflecting on the song’s resurgence, she remarked, “The response to ‘Running Up That Hill’ is something that has had its own energy… We’ve all been astounded to watch the track explode!”
