It’s a full circle moment for Cyndi Lauper.
The iconic ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ singer is headed to Perth in 2023, joining the legendary Sir Rod Stewart – an artist she covered when she was just starting out.
“When he started singing, I was in cover bands, so I was singing his work,” Lauper told Clairsy & Lisa on Tuesday.
Clairsy asked if that included any songs from Stewart’s band, Faces.
“Oh yeah, the Faces!” she remarked in her trademark Brooklyn accent before admitting her cover band didn’t actually let her sing one of Stewart’s most beloved tracks.
“I didn’t sing Maggie May,” she lamented, “the drummer sang that, hey, they didn’t give that to me!”
Now, Lauper gets to tour with Stewart.
“It’s unbelievable because I get to sing with him – it’s wild how life turns around like that.”
