It’s been over two decades, but Nicole Kidman is FINALLY setting the record straight on the image that went viral in 2001, seemingly triumphantly celebrating her divorce from now ex-husband, Tom Cruise.
The image shows Kidman in a pink top and green skirt, walking in a parking lot, appearing to be cheering following the finalisation of her divorce:
But in a new interview from British GQ, Kidman explained what the image actually is — and the post-divorce story was simply “not true”.
“That was not me,” she clarified. “That was from a film. That wasn’t real life. I know that image!”
Nicole didn’t specify which film it came from.
She also added, “I’ve also seen the one where I’m clapping like that,” referring to this other viral moment:
“I had a massive heavy borrowed ring on and it was really painful, and I was scared of wrecking the jewellery. Ha! There’s always something behind the actual images that go out there, right?”

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise got divorced in 2001 after 11 years of marriage, and two children, Bella (31) and Connor (29). She married her current husband, Keith Urban, five years later in 2006, and the couple shares two daughters, Sunday Rose (16) and Faith Margaret (13).
