After almost 20 years, the curtain is closing for The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The daytime host announced that after 19 seasons, the program’s final episode will air on May 26.
During her time on the show, Ellen DeGeneres has hosted over 4,000 guests and given away nearly half a billion dollars in giveaways.
A spokesperson for the show said, “The lineup of special guests will pay tribute to the trailblazing host and share their favourite memories from DeGeneres’ 19 iconic seasons.”
Back in May 2021, DeGeneres announced that her talk show would be coming to an end.
“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” she said.
“I was going to stop after season 16. That was going to be my last season, and they wanted to sign for four more years and I said I’d sign maybe for one.
“They were saying there was no way to sign for one. ‘We can’t do that with the affiliates and the stations need more of a commitment. So, we [settled] on three more years, and I knew that would be my last. That’s been the plan all along.”
Kelly Clarkson’s The Kelly Clarkson Show will fill DeGeneres’ series’ time slot in the US.
