Vince Vaughn has slammed Hollywood while discussing his career highlights during a recent appearance on the popular ‘First We Feast’ segment, Hot Ones.
In between eating wings that progressively get spicier and spicier, he explained why we don’t really see many ‘raunchy’ comedies like Knocked Up, Horrible Bosses, Step Brothers, Wedding Crashers, Old School and The Hangover much anymore, which all score R ratings in the US (over here they generally attract an M or MA 15+ rating).
In the interview, he states movies are losing their humour and originality because the ‘people in charge don’t want to get fired’, and one of the ways they can try to avoid taking those risks, is to stick to projects with intellectual property (IP), such as Marvel – because people recognise the brand as a ‘vehicle for storytelling’ rather than a theme, such as ‘a girl who turns 16’ (Sixteen Candles) or ‘a kid who chucks a sickie to get out of school’ (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).
