While it’s Sydneysiders who are the luckiest with five suburbs listed in Australia’s Top 10 lottery hotspots, one remote WA town has come in at am impressive third.
Surrounded by six NSW, two Victorian and one Queensland postcode, good ol’ Karratha romped it in as the only place from WA to make the top 10.
The list was compiled by The Lottery Office, an Australian-owned and online-only lottery provider which holds the appropriate license which gives Aussies the chance to win from huge international draws.
Australia’s ten luckiest lotto hotspots:
- Oatlands, NSW
- Pennant Hills, NSW
- Karratha, WA
- Birkdale, QLD
- Elanora Heights, NSW
- Mount Eliza, VIC
- Saint Mary’s, NSW
- Liverpool, NSW
- Brighton, VIC
- Barangaroo, NSW
The Lottery Office CEO Jaclyn Wood said she was unsurprised that NSW landed the top two.
“The Oatlands winner was one number short of claiming a $170 million division 1 prize in USA Power Lotto. His win was boosted because he accidentally selected a multiplier game for an extra $3.45, which doubled his division 2 base prize of $828,000,” she exclaimed.
However, as Karratha is more than 1500kms from Perth… sitting among the Sydney suburbs on the list it was definitely the ‘odd one’.
“I was very surprised to find Karratha on the list of top ten luckiest lotto suburbs, but interestingly it is where we scored our first major winner,” Ms Wood said.
“Our very first large win was from Karratha, a miner who had just finished his shift, he was shocked when we called him,” Ms Wood said.
The win was as a result of the US Powerball draw held on July 31, 2019.
He picked up a handy AUD$45,612.30 after his ticket matched 4 main numbers and the Powerball to get the Division 3 win.
The next big draw, the $257 million Italian Super Jackpot, closes midday AEDT Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
