Live music venues are the lifeblood of Australia’s music industry, but Fremantle’s Freo.Social is facing an uncertain future due to complaints from an adjacent hotel development – despite the venue being there first.
Speaking with Clairsy & Lisa, Aussie music icon Mark Lizotte (also known as Diesel) didn’t hold back, calling the situation ‘pathetic’ and taking aim at what he sees as a growing cultural obsession with property values over creative spaces.
Drawing comparisons to Melbourne’s strong live music protections, Diesel emphasised the need for a similar approach in WA, stating that if people don’t like noise, they should ‘get some swimmer’s ear plugs’ rather than force beloved venues out of existence.
