Qantas has offered a goodwill payment to a Melbourne muso who says his double bass was ‘smashed beyond repair’ during a flight to Perth for the Fringe Festival.

Mark Elton shared the damage on social media, revealing the instrument was written off.

It was reported that a replacement was in the vicinity of $13,000.

Following a review of CCTV footage at Melbourne and Perth airports, Qantas acknowledged no clear evidence of transit case damage but offered a goodwill payment nonetheless.
