After a global search, Perth Film Studios has announced the appointment of Tom Avison as Chief Executive Officer.

Currently the Director of Operations at Sky Studios Elstree in London, Avison brings nearly two decades of experience in studio management, production, and operations. His leadership at Sky Studios Elstree included overseeing productions like Wicked, Paddington 3, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and Jurassic World: Rebirth.

Home Fire Director Howard Cearns praised Avison’s track record, stating, “Tom’s expertise in studio operations and creating collaborative cultures is invaluable. His work at Sky Studios Elstree, one of the UK’s largest facilities, highlights his ability to manage major productions and build successful teams. We’re thrilled to have him lead Perth Film Studios as it prepares to open in 2026.”

Avison expressed his excitement about joining Perth Film Studios, describing the venture as “a world-class facility emerging within a thriving screen sector.” He added, “The chance to contribute to this dynamic environment was irresistible, and I’m honoured to help position Perth as a global production hub.”

Joining Avison is producer and production manager James Grandison, who steps into the role of Business and Industry Development Director. Grandison, whose credits include The Surfer, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and Mystery Road: Origin, will focus on fostering collaboration between local and international productions.

Screenwest CEO Rikki Lea Bestall welcomed the new leadership, emphasising the studio’s potential to attract diverse projects and further grow WA’s screen industry.

The Malaga-based facility, featuring four studios, workshops, and a 5-acre backlot, is now set to open in early 2026.
