Following his second successful Netflix special Lubricant, Russell Howard is heading back to Perth’s Riverside Theatre next month (for a show that’s still yet-to-be-titled).
The British stand-up’s credits include Mock the Week, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Graham Norton Show, The Jonathan Ross Show, and 8 Out of 10 Cats as well as amassing more than 500 million views across six seasons of his own The Russell Howard Hour, and is known for putting our chaotic world into perspective in his own uniquely hilarious way – which, for someone who is known as the ‘uplifting comedy king’, can be straight-up dark.
“I saw a video of some Ukranian grandmothers making missiles and defending their land and in that video they were laughing – and that made complete sense to me,” he told Clairsy & Lisa. “So I have a bit in the show about humour in dark places. I don’t want to give anything away but it’s a particularly filthy joke.”
“The point I’m making, as an extension from my last special, is that laughter is the lubricant that makes life liveable, when the world is at its bleakest, sometimes the humour is dark, daring and delicious.”
