The Perth Mint has already sold out of the first-issue coins to feature King Charles’ effigy after they went on sale this morning.
Collectors lined up early to secure the special addition to the Australian Kangaroo series, with the $1 coin retailing for $130.
The Mint had 7,500 of the coins on sale in-store and online, and issued extremely low certificate numbers which is seen as highly desirable to collectors. Despite buyers being limited to two per household, the Mint quickly sold out.
Along with Charlie’s effigy, the coin is also marked with ‘P125’ to celebrate Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
