It’s been nearly 30 years since we’ve seen a finals comeback like this.
“It was a really special night,” Ryan Daniels remarked to Clairsy & Lisa on Monday morning, clearly still basking in the afterglow on Saturday night’s 13-point elimination final win – 11.7 (73) to 8.12 (60) – over the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium.
Thing is, the night didn’t start off particularly special for Freo.
As half-time approached, the Dogs had opened up a 41-point lead… some fans were left wondering whether they should head home early.
“Had it got to half time without a goal… because that four minutes… they kicked like four goals in four minutes.”
From here onward, the gap just kept closing for the Dockers.
Rhino said this 41-point comeback was the best finals’ comeback in 29 years.
“Last time was Adelaide v Essendon, and Essendon came back from 42 points down to make the grand final in ’93 and they won it.”
